Chemical Elements as Tracers of the Evolution of the Cosmos

ChETEC Year 1 Main workshop

The ChETEC COST Action year 1 main workshop took place at Keele University on October 9-11. The meeting was attended by 60-70 participants (40% female and 29% ITCs) coming from more than 20 countries who joined the ChETEC Action. The meeting was very successful. More than 20 cross-disciplinary teams/projects were established during the discussions and planning of the 4 years of the ChETEC Action.

It started with the management committee meeting on October 9. Reports from the CORE team showed that the working groups and networking tools has been successfully put in place (see activities for more details). The reports also showed that the COST policies of excellence and inclusiveness had been fully implemented. In particular, gender balance is good (40%) and several measures are in place to support researchers from Inclusiveness Target Countries (29% ITCs, see inclusiveness for details).

Gender balance

Remake of the famous 1927 Solvay Physics conference with inverted gender balance.

The meeting was very successful. On Tuesday, participants got to know each other in sub-group discussions and reviewed key open questions as well as existing databases related to chemical elements production modelling and observations. On Wednesday, plans were made to start tackling these open questions with cross-disciplinary teams as well as plan to build the key missing databases and improve existing ones. More than 20 cross-disciplinary teams/projects were established and the Action has really taken off during this meeting.
