Ameerah (Hammadi) Al Sadooni is an Assistant Professor in Physics at the University of Babylon, Iraq. She won a studentship from the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to study for a PhD at Keele. She studies the interaction between the disc and halo in spiral galaxies. Besides analysing radio survey data of the Milky Way, she has been using the Southern African Large Telescope to obtain optical Fabry-Perot spectral cubes, and longslit spectra, of regions of interest in two nearby spiral galaxies, NGC4945 and NGC300. Ameerah won a place on the NEON Observing School, in Greece, and has attended scientific conferences in Germany and Poland. She spent a month working at the SAAO in Cape Town and visiting the SALT.
