Amanda Bailey ("Mandy") obtained her doctorate in 2014 for a thesis entitled "Probing the Diffuse Interstellar Medium with Diffuse Interstellar Bands", in - and around - the Local Bubble and in - and in front of - the Magellanic Clouds. She traveled to Australia to observe with the ATCA radio interferometer and the 4m AAT (twice), to Chile to observe with the 3.5m NTT at the European Southern Observatory at La Silla (3x), to Canada and China for conferences, and to Bonn for a radio astronomy school. Mandy was also Publicity Officer of The Society for Popular Astronomy (SPA) and council member and astronomy secretary of the RAS. After her PhD she took up positions at Liverpool John Moores University, as projects officer for the National Schools Observatory, and as an associate lecturer at the Open University.
