This is an image of Comet Hale-Bopp taken with the Keele's 24 inch Refelector. The comet was discovered on July 23, 1995 and is currently passing through our solar system. Not one to miss out, Keele Observatory will now be open to the public not only on Tuesday evenings but also on Friday and Saturday evenings from 7:00 p.m. onwards. These opening times will apply from March 21 to April 4 inclusive.
Hale-Bopp will reach Perihelion on April 1 and will make it's closest approach to the Earth on March 22. Thanks to "The Astronomer" for producing these morning and evening horizon plots, and "Astronomy" for this constellation map. Happy comet hunting !
