Atle Vesterkjaer , Senior Software Engineer at Numascale, visit to Keele on February 1-3

Atle Vesterkjaer, Senior Software Engineer at Numascale, visited Keele last month to review the progress of the current projects as well as plan future projects.

Atle Vesterkjaer , Senior Software Engineer at Numascale, visited Keele on February 1-3 to review the progress of our Monte Carlo sensitivity studies project (see WP1), which greatly benefits from the shared-memory Numascale computer cluster and our collaboration with the Numascale company, who develop both the hardware and corresponding software stack to fully exploit very large shared-memory systems. The fruits of our collaboration was presented at the International Supercomputing Conference ISC15 in frankfurt last year, see Raphael's talk.

Atle gave a talk on the Numascale technology during his visit, which was well received not only by the SHYNE team and the rest of the Astrophysics group but also by computer scientists from Keele, who are interested in using the Numascale system. During his talk, he also presented how the Numa technology can accommodate GPU cards to improve the analysis and visualisation of very large datasets.
