Red house spider
Identification:
Bite: Mild to severe local pain.
Habitat: Dark corners.
Notes: It was very dead!
This spider was found while removing a box against the wall in the
dining room. It was curled up and obviously dead. Because of this,
we managed to get a ruler up to the spider for identification and
photographed it quite close.
It's body is around 1cm long, and with the legs curled up we cannot
estimate the size of the spider.
Being novices, we were quite alarmed at first that it could be a
Redback spider. This is a common misconception, and Redbacks are not
completely red as in this specimen, but have black bodies and legs,
with an hourglass red mark on their back.
